The Next Shot
Have you ever seen a golfer get angry after making a bad shot? Dispirited by the gaffe they might curse at themselves or even slam a club into the grass.
Of course such actions are futile. Can anything they say or do change the shot that has already been taken? Obviously not.
We all know we can't change the past. Despite considerable contemplations that seem to belie such a belief. Yet think about how much energy is exerted pointlessly ruminating on what has already transpired.
A powerful lesson in A Course in Miracles articulates, "The past is over. It can touch me not." The past cannot affect us, nor we it.
But there is one thing errant golfers, and by extension, we, can and ought to deeply ponder: the next shot.
The next shot provides an opportunity to focus attention on what matters most: the present moment. It is only in the now that an efficacious endeavor might be initiated. Now is the release from all sorrow that the past projected into a framework of dualism. The world now stands shining in perfect peace and stillness. The next shot flows forth from a place of confident certainty.
Join me in Thursday's class where we'll explore the pernicious effects of past preoccupation, and a path we can take to sublimely step into the next shot. I look forward to seeing you then.
