Walking Beside You
There's a lovely line in A Course in Miracles that reads, "If you knew Who walks beside you on the way that you have chosen, fear would be impossible."
The "Who" is neither a person nor deity. More like a presence of perfect peace. A reflection of pure love. Beyond reverence or any other form of prayer or penance, this ethereal essence merely is. Its existence a compassionate companion on our journey through this thing called life ... "the way that you have chosen".
We've fitfully forgotten such a choice for body-based identity, this me for whom all our thoughts center. The world a seeming reality wherein objective drama unfolds.
But, as the Course reminds us, "The secret of salvation is but this: that you are doing this unto yourself. No matter what the [experience], this still is true."
The way that we have chosen. We are doing this unto ourselves.
As radical and perhaps repulsive as that might seem, it offers another way of seeing. A way out of all sorrow. By metaphorically leaning on our walking companion, we can look with gentleness and without judgment at the attachment to me. Fear instantly dissolves into the most glorious sense of peace. Miracles replace all mirages of madness.
That's Who walks beside us. We need merely turn toward Its light.
Join me in Thursday's class where we'll explore the nature of infinite presence and practices for communing with such grace. I look forward to seeing you then.
